The 1st Annual MoSt 5K

The 1st Annual MoSt Foundation Walk/Run/Stroll was a huge success! Held Sunday, March 14, 2010 , at Founder's Park South and Turnberry Circle in Aventura , FL , the event took place in celebration and remembrance of Morris Stein, raising nearly $1700 for the foundation established in his memory. The Morris Stein Foundation (MoSt,)  supports causes he favored including the environment, animal rescue, tolerance and diversity and gun safety.

More than 100 people came out and enjoyed perfect weather, bagels from Einstein's, cream cheese from Mo's and orange slices and water from Whole Foods, as well as a fun raffle drawing. Miami Prime Grill, Simon Fitoussi of En Vogue Salon,  Kielh's in Aventura Mall,  Winn Dixie on Ives Dairy Road , and  Invicta Watches generously contributed prizes for the raffle.  A free cruise from www.CaribbeanCL.com was also offered to MoSt supporters, many of whom were students from Michael Krop Senior High School , Morris' alma mater.

At least a third of the money raised  went to the Humane Society of Greater Miami by The MoSt Foundation, animal rescue being one of Morris' favorite causes and activities. He grew up with three dogs and two cats, all adopted foundlings, and rescued many strays besides.

Morris was killed January 17, 2008 , less than two months after leaving home to attend college, when a shotgun held by a friend discharged in his apartment. We're still collecting online signatures for the foundation's petition for Safety Instruction Before Gun Ownership.

This is a picture of the puppies Morris rescued from the streets of Tallahassee, Nov 2007. It was important to him that they not be separated and he found them the best home ever. The new owner kept the name Bella that Morris had given the blonde one and named the black one Morris, which pleased Morris to no end.
